It felt good to make something just for fun tonite. my friend Kyle Pahlow has a gimpy shoulder and cannot surf till the fall. but he has recently been cleared to swim. so i made him this hand plane that has been glued up for 2 years and never got made because i am always too busy. ( which is the same excuse i have for why my website sucks and my own house looks like a hovel).

it’s a little bigger than most of the hand planes i’ve seen. but it’s the american way you know. consider it like a hummer. the strap is vegan!- a webbed cotton belt from the thrift shop. (bonus points) the wood was left over from an alaia which was made from jobsite leftovers. (mega-double bonus)

lets all be stoked for kyle and hope he doesn’t blow out his other shoulder.

Farmhaus Kitchen

Latest kitchen install in center city and my first official kitchen as Farmhaus. Thats a reclaimed heart-pine bar top and shelving. All the handles are hand-made. Steel handles on the walnut doors. Walnut handles on the white doors. The branded drawers make it official. Stoked on this.

Captain’s Couch

Basically a low chest of drawers, i built this for NYC power couple Daniel Plenge and Lauren Gerrie, as a storage solution for their small apt. It aligns with an existing brick ledge behind it so the upholstered cushion (not shown) covers both and making a couch, a daybed, a guest bed, and a bench when they pull the dining table over to seat more guests. i will re-brotograph this when the cushion is in.

case: maple ply with a walnut frame

doors: walnut ply drawer faces with integrated steel handles.

hardware: Blum soft-closing drawer slides

bonus: Aromatic Cedar closet-liner on the inside back panel keeps the moths away and freshens up stored items.

i held off posting these since the quality of the pics could not possibly get worse. my phone has a solid pound of sawdust packed into the camera lens.

anywho….this is a record storage cabinet for the vinyl selection of some sweet friends Keith and Rita. Kieth is the front man for Prowler and an artist who’s works appear in the village voice and shit. rita is just cool as shit as far as i know.

This is where i spent the last 1/4 of 2011. This is JAMONERA restaurant on 13th st. near chestnut in Center City Philadelphia. These pictures do no justice to the amount of work that went into the project. The space needs to be seen to fully appreciate it and the food and drink only makes it better. If you go PLEASE try the red vermouth. it changed me.

Reclaimed Is So Hot Right Now!

this is the entrance to Leadnomics Corporate Office in the Cira Center that beautiful prism shaped highrise at the western edge of center city, Philadelphia. they were not pleased with the headache inducing wall paper and asked that i introduce something warmer and more inviting.

this was the result, a mix of various salvaged barn siding and bead boards from just a little further west in berks county. the curved wall is 8’ tall and 18’ long.

this arrived via post today with a sweet handwritten message. it appears this here plane was made from beach salvaged balsa and cedar scraps from our friends at medford cedar. i think it’s gonna make summer take even longer to get here.
